ECO-FRIENDLY FEATURES ABOUT MY GROUP'S 3D-MODEL:
All the materials were linked with the 3 rs', which are reuse, reduce and recycle. All the materials we use are bio-degradable. The playground was mainly built with ice cream sticks. Leisure room and the ornaments were built with ice cream sticks and cardboard.
REMARKS:
Materials used are ice cream stick, string, tooth picks, cardboard, wrapping paper and toilet rolls. Most of the designs were built by ice cream sticks, so ice cream sticks is our most important materials. Next is the cardboard, we chose a hard and reliable material. We used colourful wrapping paper to make the model look attractive.

Playground designs that are linked to the novel:
There are many designs which are linked to the book. There is the swing, monkey bar, projector gaming room and the leisure room.
EXPLANATION OF HOW THE DESIGNS A RE LINKED TO THE NOVEL:
The swing, is like the rope in the novel, which Jesse and Leslie has to swing across to Teribithia. The children can enjoy the breeze and have fun. The monkey bar acts as an obstacle for the children, in the novel, Jesse and Leslie faced many challenges. The children will be determine and encouraged to climb to the end. Projector gaming room, is like imaginary world, as in the novel, Jesse and Leslie often imagine that they are the king and queen of Teribithia. When here is this gaming room, the children can be themselves and stimulate more of their mind. The leisure room is a quiet place where the children can relax themselves, in the novel, Jesse and Leslie built a treehouse for themselves and do relax and not disturb by the outside world.

PLAYGROUND DESIGNS THAT MEETS THE SPECIAL NEEDS OF THE CHILDREN:
We surrounded the playground with plastic balls. There is a corner for the children's parents to sit down. A leisure room for the children to read and play board games. A projector gaming world for the children to enjoy themselves. There is a flash card corner in the playground.
EXPLANATION OF HOW THE DESIGNS MEET THE SPECIAL NEEDS OF THE CHILDREN:
The plastics balls are put there as it can avoid the children to fall down and hurt themselves. There is a corner for parents to sit down as the parents can observe their children and their children can feel safe with their parents around. A leisure room is set up for the children to have the chance to do things other children do. Like playing board games and reading books,  volunteers will teach them how to play and read. A projector gaming room is built as it a  chance for them to experience something that they cannot in the outside world. This can make the child to play more comfortable and stimulate their brain. The Flash card corner can help the children to absorb more of the learning skills. This cards can help them remember more clearly and understand better.

WIP 03 Final submission of the list of initial ideas to improvised ideas

Initial ideas of how to build the model :

-monkey bars and ladders
After we had our research, we found out that down syndrome children have poor muscle tone so we decided to build monkey bars and ladders to strengthen their muscle tone.

-flash cards
The flash cards are to stimulate their brains and help them learn more things.

-tree house with slide
All playgrounds have slides so it came to our mind straightaway. The tree house also acts as a link to the novel.

-projector gaming world
Like Terabithia, the projector gaming world is virtual. It not only acts as a link to the novel, children can have fun, play different and interesting games and experience what is a projector gaming world.

-plastic balls
The plastic balls were to support their fall and prevent them from getting injuries when they play in the playground.

-bridge
We decided to build the bridge which is an entrance from the main building into our playground. It is also a link to the novel, Bridge to Terabithia.

-bicycle
We wanted to build a bicycle that is stationary as to let the down syndrome children try riding a bicycle and also if the children ride the bicycle, it also can strengthen their legs' muscle tone.

Improvised ideas :

-megaphones
This allows the children in the playground to communicate with each other and make new friends.

-bicycle with a generator
As we thought the a bicycle being stationary was too wasted, we decided to insert a generator which generates electricity for the projector gaming world and the lights on the bridge from the kinetic energy produced by the children when they are riding it. We thought of this as we considered global warming. The concept that we want to let the children think was also "Work hard, Play hard", which meant that if they ride the bicycle long enough, they can see the lights light up on the bridge and also there will be electricity for them to play in the projector gaming world although the projector gaming world is not necessarily dependent on the generator.

-swing
The swing acts as a link to the novel but still, the children can have fun too.

-leisure room
We decided to build this leisure room as it is a quiet corner for the children where there will be volunteers to read books to the children. They can learn new words and other stuff. We also included different board games for the children to play as the games can stimulate their minds and train their brain power as these games need a lot of thinking and patience.

-bridge with lights
The lights will only light up when the children ride on the bicycle. It not only fascinates the children, the lights are also able to stimulate their brains and help them learn faster and they also can learn the different colours.

-see saw
We decided to build the see saw to aid the children in their sense of balance.

-platform
The platform was included at the later part of our discussion as we wanted to let the parents see their children's progress in learning and playing.

-name tags
It helps the children to learn during the process of play and it also helps them to learn faster than usual.

Eco-friendly features about my group's 3D-model

The materials that we used to build for the model are all bio-degradable except for the scotch tape, double-sided tape and superglue. For the rest of our materials, some were recycled materials from our homes and some were bought.

Remarks(e.g. materials to be used, relevant research with links, photograph links etc)

Materials used are :

-cardboard
for the base, walls , ceiling and some parts of the model
-tracing paper
used to wrap the walls of the model
-recycled paper
paper balls
-wrapping paper
for the wall and the outside of the model
-ice cream sticks
for the monkey bars, ladders, swing, tables, benches, tree house and the bicycle
-toothpicks
for the support of the megaphones
-toilet rolls
for the slide of the playground
-colour paper
for the labels and megaphones
-super glue, double sided tape and scotch tape
to stick all the parts and pieces of the model together

Playground designs/concepts that are linked to the novel

-monkey bars and ladders
-tree house
-swing
-bridge
-projector gaming world

Explanation of how the designs/concepts are linked to the novel

-monkey bars and ladders
The monkey bars and ladders act as obstacles for the down syndrome children like how Terabithia had monsters and creatures as obstacles for Jesse and Leslie.
-tree house
In Terabithia, there is also a tree house that allows Jesse and Leslie to relax and learn. In our playground, we built a tree house for this purpose which we inserted flash cards for the children to learn and have fun.
-swing
The swing acts as the rope which Jesse and Leslie used to swing across to Terabithia.
-bridge
At the end of the novel, Jesse built a bridge to enter Terabithia and our playground has a bridge which serves as an entrance from the main building.
-projector gaming world
The projector gaming world is a virtual gaming world just like Terabithia.

Playground designs/concepts that meets the specials needs of the children

-monkey bars and ladders
-see saw
-leisure room
-bicycle
-flash cards
-plastic balls
-name tags
-lights( light up on the bridge when the children cycle)

Explanation of how the designs meet the specials needs of the children

-monkey bars and ladders
As the down syndrome children have poor muscle tone, the monkey bars and ladders can strengthen the children's muscle tone especially for the arms.
-see saw
The see saw is to help the children in their sense of balance.
-leisure room
The leisure room has various board games which can stimulate their brains. There will be volunteers who will help read story books to the children, in this way, the children can learn new words and other things.
-bicycle
Many down syndrome children are not allowed to ride bicycles as their parents are afraid they might injure themselves. In our playground, the bicycle is stationary so the children will not fall off due to unbalance. The bicycle also can train up the muscle tone in the children's legs. The bicycle acts as a generator, there will be electricity for the other parts of the playground and the lights on the bridge which can stimulate their brains.
-flash cards
The flash cards has pictures of different items so that it can stimulate the brains of the children and help them learn faster.
-plastic balls
The plastic balls will act as a soft landing when the children fall so it will prevent injuries when they fall.
-name tags
The name tags has words so that the children will be able to learn things easier and faster.
-lights on the bridge
The lights on the bridge will light up when the children ride on the bicycle. This will be able to stimulate their brains and aid them in learning different colours.

Eco Friendliness of our group's 3D Model

Almost all the materials used for our model are biodegradable except for scotch tape, super glue and double sided tape. The materials used are mostly reused except for the stationaries like scotch tape and others.

Remarks

Materials used:

-Tracing paper Used to warp certain parts of our project. E.t.c the walls.
-Cardboard Used as a base for our model and walls separating different parts of our
model
-Ice cream sticks Used to make monkey bars, benches, swings, tree house, tables, chairs and
ladders.
-Toilet rolls Used to make slide
-Used colour papers Used as labels, and for the megaphones
-Toothpicks Used to support the megaphones.
-Used papers Used to make paper balls.
-Wrapping papers Used to wrap our model
-Super glue Used to glue parts of our model together
-Scotch tape Used to stick parts of our model together.

Playground designs/concepts that are linked to the novel

-Monkey bar and ladders
-Projector gaming world
-Bridge
-Swing
-Tree House

Remarks

Monkey bar and ladders- Act as an obstacle to the children like what Jesse and Leslie did.

Projector gaming world- This 'world' is virtual which is exactly the same as Terabithia.

Bridge- In the end of the novel, Jesse built a bridge to Terabithia to let his sister, Maybelle, to
cross. Hence, this acts as an entrance to our playground from the main building

Swing- In the novel, Jesse and Leslie played with swings in Terabithia.

Tree House- Jesse and Leslie have a tree house in Terabithia which they spent their time in
there relaxing.

Playground designs/concepts that meet the special needs of the children

-Bicycle
-Plastic Balls
-Ladders and monkey bars
-Flash cards
-See saw
-Leisure room
-Name tags

Remarks

Bicycle- As the parents of Down syndrome kids are worried that their children will injure
themselves while cycling, Down Syndrome kids will not have the much chance to cycle.
Our playground's bicycle is rooted to the ground so that the children will not fall off because
of unbalance. The bicycle also serve as a generator, changing the kinetic energy when the
kids are cycling to electrical energy that power up the lights and some parts of our
playground.

Plastic Balls- These balls can reduce the amount of injury caused when the children trip and fall.

See saw- This is a slightly less energy consuming thing to play with as Down Syndrome kids
have low muscle tone.

Ladders and monkey bar- These are energy consuming things to play with. The children can
play with these to improve their physical health if they want to.

Leisure Room- Here, the kids can enjoy themselves to play with board games and listen to
stories by the volunteers who will be at the leisure room.

Flash Cards- The children can learn faster with these as these cards can stimulate their minds.

Name tags- These tags can help the children in recognising things.

- cardboard
- wrapping paper
- toilet rolls
- tracing paper
- toothpicks

Playground designs/concepts that are linked to the novel

- Swing
- bridge
- project gaming world
- Ladders and monkey bars
- tree house

Explanation of how the designs/concepts are linked to the novel

- Swing
Jess and Leslie took turns to swing at one part of the movie and they also swing to their Terabithia instead of walking to it.

-bridge
Jess walked across to the Terabithia at the end of the novel for the convenience of Maybelle after Leslie died.

-Project gaming world
It is virtual just like Terabithia and kids will have fun playing inside just like how Jess and Leslie played freely inside.

-Ladders and Monkey bars
It acts as obstacles for the kids just like Jess and Leslie, who faces different kinds of problem in life. The kids will have to cheer themselves on and keep on climbing with determination just like how Jess did when he faced the terror of Leslie's death.

-tree house
In the movie, Jess and Leslie had a tree house in Terabithia which allows them to relax and play and also learn inside. We have a tree house which serves the same purposes as Terabithia's tree house.

Playground designs/concepts that meet the special needs of the children

- Flash cards
- name tags
- monkey bars and ladders
- Seesaw
- bicycle

Explanation of how the designs meet the special needs of the children

-Flash cards
It helps stimulate the children's brain for them to learn even faster than normal.

-name tags.
It shows the children what is the name of that object and helps them to remember it easily and faster.

-monkey bars and ladders
It allows the children to exercise and relax their muscles as they are more hyper than normal people. It also helps to train their muscle.

-Seesaw
It helps the children to balance themselves better

-bicycle
it serves as an exercising machine for the children to exercise and train their muscles. As the lights will light up when electricity is generated, the lights will be able to allow the children to learn colours faster and stimulate their minds.

Question 2a.
Explain how your reading of the novel has inspired the design in the playground in 100 words.

First of all, there is a bridge connecting the playground to the main building. It served as an entrance to the playground like how Leslie and Jesse did. The balls on the ground are used to protect the children if they fall down. The balls served as a protection for them as the playground is to protect the children like what Terabithia has done to Leslie and Jesse to protect them from emotional sufferings. It also served as an obstacle for the kids as the balls are hard to balance on. If they fall, they will have to stand up their own. There are monkey bars and ladders for them to climb on. This can act as an obstacles to the children as it is not easy to climb on monkey bars and ladders which requires strong will to accomplish. It is like the obstacles in the novel that Jesse and Leslie had faced. They have to overcome these obstacles. The swing is also found as Jess and Leslie used a rope to swing across and Jess managed to overcome the fear of swinging across. The projector gaming world is like the imaginary world of Terabithia. It is virtual. It allows the children to have fun just like Jess and Leslie in Terabithia in the novel.

Question 2b
Write a 100-word explanation as to why you had chosen the specific recycled materials for your model.

The materials we have used for our projects are ice cream sticks, card boards, toilet rolls, wrapping papers, strings and papers. The reason why we used the ice cream sticks to build the 'tree house' is because the sticks are strong and can be trusted to build a sturdy building. Not only that, the sticks also are used to make benches, swings and monkey bars. The toilet rolls is used to make slide because it can be bend and is not as weak as normal paper. The cardboard is used as the base and walls of our model as they are very strong. The wrapping papers are used to decorate our model. The strings are used for the swings and hold the ornaments aloft. the papers are used to make paper balls as they can be easily squashed into paper balls. All the materials used are biodegradable and can be link to the three R's, Reduce Reuse and Recycle.
