WIP 03 FINAL SUBMISSION OF REASONS
REASONS for things in Terra land of Bithia :DBalls: These balls help to protect the children if they fall accidentally.
Bridge: A link from the main building to "Terra land of
Bithia" This bridge acts as their entrance to their "wonder land" just like the way Jess and Leslie did. It also helps the children to balance
themselves.
Tree house: Allows the children to rest after a long play, allows them to bond relationships with their friends and it is related to Jess and Leslie's tree house. Jess and Leslie also have a tree house in the movie.
Flash Cards: Stimulates the children's brain and allow them to learn faster than usual.
Ladder attached to tree house: Trains the children's muscle and allows them to get up into the tree house.
Ladders and monkey bars: the bars acts as the obstacle ahead of them (just like the problems faced by Jess and Leslie) helping them to overcome the obstacle. It helps in training their arm and leg muscles.
Seesaw: allows them to balance better.
Echoes: helps the children to bond their relationship with their friends. It also help to fascinate them. Relates to Jess and Leslie as both of them bond mostly in their imaginary land.
Slide: trains them to
overcome obstacles as there is a layer of wall before they can reach the slide. They have to bend down to reach to the slide.
Swing: It is hung on the celling. One of them is longer than the other. The longer one is for children who are shorter while the longer one is for taller
children. It teaches them to balance well, bond relationships by helping one another to push the one on the swing. It is related to the novel as there was a part in the movie when Jess and Leslie took turns to sit on the swing and chatted.
Bicycle: It is used as a generator for the whole playground. It can help to save the electricity used from the power station. This can aid in protecting the environment. Another reason why we have a bicycle is because parents of Down Syndrome kids usually would not allow them to cycle at home in fear their children might injure themselves. As our bicycle is rooted to the ground, parents can rest assured that their children would not fall and injure themselves. This gives the kids a chance to cycle.
lights: As mentioned above, it helps the children in faster learning. The colours will be changed everyday. They are mainly the rainbow colours. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. This allows them to explore different colours and know the spelling of them.
Little shapes: They are hung on the celling. These shapes helps to stimulate their brain as they are able to see different kinds of shape and sizes.
Platform: It separates the balls from the entrance to the other room as the door might be blocked by it. It also allows the adults to have a place to sit or stand without the balls obstructing them.
Benches: these benches are specially made for the parent who brought their kids to the playground to rest and also able to see their children playing. This also ensures the parents that their children are in good condition and not worrying for them.
Protractor gaming world: This place allows the children to contact with outdoor activities as down syndrome kids are easily bullied if they are out playing these games. They might get teased of their slow reaction and thus causing them to be embarrassed to play outdoor games. These games includes soccer, hockey, Flo ball and other interesting games. Inside here, they will not be embarrassed as all the people inside also has the same problem as them.
Bookshelf: To store the books for the children to read when they are tired of playing.
Carpet: When the seats are full, the children are able sit on the carpet to read their books or do some story telling by some of the volunteers.
Tables and chairs: Allows the children to rest and read their book, play some board games or do drawings or painting. it helps to cultivate their interesting in their mother tongue languages and art. It is related to Jess and Jess loves to draw too.
Volunteer's place: There will be a volunteer sitting there who is in charge of the board games. The kids are to register their names before lending the board game and they have to return it to the volunteer. This helps to nurture their responsibility.
Backdoor: The backdoor is for the convenience of the children so that they need not climb all the way up through the
bridge before going off.
We have also pasted "name tags" which have the name of the object on it. For example, on the swing, we pasted the word "swing" to teach them the spelling and improve their
english.
* the blue print will be posted soon.
